4 Edge Rusher Free Agents the Atlanta Falcons should consider signing

Image
The lack of an effective pass rush has haunted the Atlanta Falcons for a long time. They haven't been a top ten team at rushing the quarterback since 2004, ironically that year they lead the league in Quarterback sacks with 48. Sacking the quarterback is the Falcons krypotonite, evidently displayed by them ranking in the bottom ten, 8 out of the past 10 seasons. Two players had higher individual sack totals (TJ Watt - 23.5 and Robert Quinn - 18.5) than the Atlanta Falcons team sack total of 18. A staggeringly bad effort. Terry Fontenot may choose to address edge rusher in the draft with the 8th overall pick, but one player won't solve this glaring weakness. Dean Pees defense will need at least 3 new edge rushers, in addition to internal help. Atlanta decided to release their best pass rusher in Dante Folwer. I've identified 4 potential edge rushers that would allow the Falcons defence to pressure the quarterback more frequently. Steve Wyche indicated the Falcons want to be ...

3 Cornerback Free Agents the Atlanta Falcons should consider signing

Image
The Atlanta Falcons cornerback depth chart is pretty bare. AJ Terrell, Kendall Sheffield and Darren Hall are currently the only established corners under contract for the 2022 season. Sheffield is a likely cut candidate. Cutting Sheffield would save Terry Fontenot $2.5 million that could be spent more wisely. I have identified three cornerbacks I feel would improve the Atlanta Falcons cornerback play. After all, Terrell can't do it all by himself. Malcolm Butler: Every football fan should know who Malcolm Butler is. The former undrafted free agent out of West Alabama made one of the greatest plays in NFL History; his Superbowl sealing goal line interception of Russell Wilson in the final seconds of Superbowl 49 was one of the most dramatic footballing moments ever witnessed. Butler signed for the Arizona Cardinals for the 2021 season, but retired due to personal reasons. Butler has familiarity with Dean Pees defense. Pees was Butlers' defensive coordinator in 2018 and 2019 with...

3 Left Guard Free Agents the Atlanta Falcons should consider signing

Image
It is perfectly clear to anyone who watched the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, that their offensive line is a major issue that needs improving. Most importantly, left guard Jalen Mayfield cannot start for the team next season. A rookie third round pick out of Michigan, Mayfield was sprung into the starting line up for week one, after an injury to Josh Andrews just before the season opener. Mayfield was the worst starting guard in the whole NFL last year. Week after week, he was shown to be completely out of his depth. If he was a house pet, he would of been put out of his misery. I have identified three players that would improve the left guard position for the Atlanta Falcons. This would allow Terry Fontenot to use the draft to shore up other holes on the roster.  Connor Williams: The former 50th overall draft pick in 2018 has started 51 out of 57 games during his time with the Dallas Cowboys. He has improved each year he has played in the NFL, ranking as PFF's 11th ranked guard in 2021...

4 Wide Receiver Free Agents the Atlanta Falcons should consider signing

Image
The Atlanta Falcons leading wide receiver last season was Russell Gage, who averaged just 45 yards per game. This is simply unacceptable for a team who want to have playoff aspirations in 2022. Gage, Olamide Zaccheaus and Tajae Sharpe are all impending free agents. Calvin Ridley's future is uncertain with some speculation suggesting he might be traded. Atlanta's wide receivers as a group are one of the least talented units in the whole league. Falcons wide receivers ranked last in the NFL for % of a teams pass attempts thrown to their wideouts. I think Terry Fontenot should look to sign one receiver in free agency and add a second through the draft. I compiled a list of four wide receivers I think the Falcons should consider signing in free agency to bolster this skill group. Obviously, I avoided the likes of Davonte Adams and Chris Godwin, as they aren't affordable given our limited cap space. Christian Kirk: If the Falcons are looking to make a splash signing. Christian ...

4 players from the East-West Shrine Bowl the Atlanta Falcons could draft

Image
The 2022 East-West Shrine Bowl took place on Thursday with the West holding on to a 25-24 win after a late rally by the East.  Jelani Woods:  The tightend out of Virginia made a name for himself this week. Woods hauled in three catches for 30 yards and a touchdown. He also recovered an onside kick to negate the Easts comeback attempt. Woods showed he can contribute on special teams, which is essential for rookies. Woods drew comparisons to Colts tightend Moe Ali Cox. The Falcons ran two tightend sets on 394 plays, which ranked second in the NFL. He is a capable blocker. Woods should be a mid to late round pick. Marquan McCall: McCall is a big nose tackle out of Kentucky. Dean Pees defence couldn't stop the run or pass last season. Ideally, Terry Fontenot will use free agency and early picks in the draft to strengthen our pass rush. McCall has an impressive ability to clog rushing lanes. McCall would be a developmental project at nose tackle. He is suited to a defence like the ...
