Matt Ryan: The Greatest Atlanta Falcon of all time

Image
Matt Ryan is the greatest Atlanta Falcon of all time. It is hard to put into words what he has meant to this team and city, but I'll try my best. First year General Manager Thomas Dimitroff selected Ryan with the 3rd overall pick in the 2008 draft. Atlanta were coming off the back of a 4-12 season. Michael Vick, who was the heart and soul of the Franchise had been arrested for dog fighting before the 2007 season. The City of Atlanta was in mourning. Vick had been more than a football player. He was an icon. In addition to that, head coach Bobby Petrino quit on the team halfway through the season. The organisation was a mess. In the 41 seasons pre-dating Matt Ryan, the Atlanta Falcons had never posted back to back winning seasons, they had won 3 divisional titles, appeared in the playoffs 8 times and made 1 Superbowl appearance. Matt Ryan's 14 year tenure as the Atlanta Falcons quarterback saw them win another 3 divisional titles, make 6 playoff appearances, win an NFC champions...

The Despicable Three: Get out of Atlanta

Image
The Atlanta Falcons went all out to acquire (alleged) serial sex offender Deshaun Watson. Watson is facing 22 pending civil suits for sexual harassment and assault .  This franchise suffered the most embarrassing loss in Superbowl history, but begging for Watson to be our next franchise quarterback is by far its lowest ever point. Terry Fontenot preaches integrity when talking about the culture he wants at the Atlanta Falcons. The guy clearly doesn't know the meaning of the word. Arthur Smith, Terry Fontenot and Arthur Blank showed their true colours. As far as I'm concerned they're all scum, who don't care about women. Is it any wonder Blank has been divorced twice. I had serious reservations about Fontenot and Smith before this debacle occurred, now I can't wait for the day they are canned. As for Arthur Blank, it's time to go. Sell the team. You were prepared to sell the clubs soul for a chance at glory. Anyone who says the team done their due diligence is de...

Embrace the Rebuild Atlanta Falcons

Image
It is six years since the Atlanta Falcons lost Superbowl 51 to the New England Patriots and we are further away from getting back to the big game than every. We haven't made the playoffs in five seasons. Matt Ryan has the highest cap hit of any player in the NFL and Calvin Ridley has been suspended for the 2022 season for betting on games. The only thing the 2021 Atlanta Falcons done well was win close games against the leagues worst teams. The Fontenot and Smith regime have been hamstrung by limited cap space, but them suggesting that "We're trying to have our cake and eat it too.", will continue to see the Falcons be a team not good enough for the playoffs and too good to net a quarterback of the future. Tear it down This won't be a quick fix. I have seen people compare us with the Cincinnati Bengals, who had a meteoric rise to the Superbowl last season. This is a completely different scenario, the Bengals had plenty of cap room and a young signal caller on a ch...

3 Defensive Tackle Free Agents the Atlanta Falcons should consider signing

Image
The Atlanta Falcons have holes all over their defence, including at defensive tackle. They allowed the 6th most rushing yards per game at 131.9 and were dead last at sacking the Quarterback last season. Atlanta will definitely add several defensive lineman this off season. Terry Fontenot and Arthur Smith have said they hope to be mid market shoppers in free agency. I have identified 3 defensive tackles who wouldn't cost a whole lot and who could help Dean Pees improve his porous defence. Tim Settle Typically a player of Settle's build is a run stopping defensive tackle, but Settle excels as a pass rusher. In 2020 he accumulated 5 sacks for the Washington Football Team. Settle has a mean bull rush which allows him to over power centers. He would be my ideal partner for Grady Jarrett. Settle is still only 24, so he has years of good football still ahead of him. Washington have a deep rotation along their defensive line. I think he would star in a bigger role with the Falcons. PFF...
