The Despicable Three: Get out of Atlanta

The Atlanta Falcons went all out to acquire (alleged) serial sex offender Deshaun Watson. Watson is facing 22 pending civil suits for sexual harassment and assault. This franchise suffered the most embarrassing loss in Superbowl history, but begging for Watson to be our next franchise quarterback is by far its lowest ever point. Terry Fontenot preaches integrity when talking about the culture he wants at the Atlanta Falcons. The guy clearly doesn't know the meaning of the word. Arthur Smith, Terry Fontenot and Arthur Blank showed their true colours. As far as I'm concerned they're all scum, who don't care about women. Is it any wonder Blank has been divorced twice.


I had serious reservations about Fontenot and Smith before this debacle occurred, now I can't wait for the day they are canned. As for Arthur Blank, it's time to go. Sell the team. You were prepared to sell the clubs soul for a chance at glory. Anyone who says the team done their due diligence is delusional. They never spoke with the lawyer of the accusers. I've always had pride following the Falcons. Despite being a below average team on the field in recent years, blowing 4th quarter leads over and over again, they were my team who handled themselves the right way off the field. Not anymore. From top to bottom, leadership only cares about money and winning. Ethics, morals, integrity and what is right or wrong all take a backseat.


On Thursday evening, when all the reports were coming out that the Falcons were the front runners for Watson. My heart sank. I started thinking of all the women in my life and how could anyone condone Watson's behaviour. How the Falcons were fawning over the idea of making an (alleged) sexual predator the linchpin of their team for atleast the next decade, made me sick. Having the opportunity to own, manage or coach a football team should be an honour. To be in a position of leadership is a blessing. People like Smith, Fontenot and Blank don't deserve to have this blessing. Arthur Smith can go work for his dad at FedEx, we don't want you anymore. Terry Fontenot should be left in New Orleans, when we play them next season, we see through your bullshit nice guy act. Arthur Blank, the next time I see you interviewed, it better be at press conference announcing you're selling the team. These guys really are the despicable three!


Blank was prepared to go against the wishes of loyal fans, he completely disrespected the greatest quarterback we have ever had to land Watson whom he has been a long time admirer of. The Falcons reportedly "rolled out the red carpet" for Watson and made him feel loved. Absolutely shameful behaviour. Watson can win ten superbowls in Cleveland, but any success he has will always be tainted. I'd rather never win a game ever again, than have a human being like that as the face of my franchise. The team has to now move forward with a disgruntled veteran quarterback, the least talented roster in the NFL and limited cap space. I said in my embrace the rebuild article "If Fontenot and Smith don't embrace the rebuild, I guarantee they'll be out of a job by 2024". I now think maybe that's 12 months too long. There's something fundamentally wrong with the Atlanta Falcons. With the despicable three in charge, this franchise is doomed.

Atlanta Falcons 15-29 Buffalo Bills: Bills eliminate Falcons from playoff contention

The Atlanta Falcons were eliminated from the NFC playoff race after a 29-15 loss to the Buffalo Bills in freezing snowy conditions. The Falcons elevated five players from the practice squad to the roster before the game. Atlanta surprisingly led at half time 15-14, but a scoreless second half doomed them to a ninth defeat of the season. The Game The Falcons took a rare 2-0 lead, thanks to a safety. A forced fumble by Avery Williams on a Buffalo punt return, resulted in the ball ending up in the Bills endzone. The ball was recovered by Bills wideout Jake Kumerow. A quick Falcons three and out, gave Buffalo the ball at their own 31 yard line. The Bills moved the ball down the field with ease utilising their impressive set of wide receivers. New Orleans Saints 30-20 Atlanta Falcons: Dreadful Falcons fold like a cheap suit

The Atlanta Falcons season ended in a pitiful manner. An embarrassing home loss to their most hated divisional rivals New Orleans Saints, who were forced to play the majority of the game with their third string quarterback. Losing is acceptable when your team fights hard and leaves everything on the field; but this was a gutless showing, that emphasizes just how much work there is to be done to fix this team. Arthur Smiths men won three more games, then the 2020 Atlanta Falcons, but they were assisted by having the second easiest schedule in the NFL. The Game Taysom Hill started at quarterback for the New Orleans Saints. They opened the game on offense and orchestrated a dream drive. A run heavy approach saw Alvin Kamara pop off a 27 yard run to get the Saints in to Falcons territory.
