Atlanta Falcons Mock Draft: Media split on Falcons pick at #8

Image
The Atlanta Falcons hold the 8th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, that is three months away. It is the second consecutive year, that the Falcons are picking in the top 8. Atlanta are a team devoid of talent in many areas of their roster, so they could go a number of different ways with their opening pick. This is reflected by the huge discrepancy between several media personnel on who Terry Fontenout will select with his first round pick.  Daniel Jeremiah, NFL.com Wide Receiver: Treylon Burks, Arkansas. Jeremiah has the Atlanta Falcons selecting wide receiver Treylon Burks in round one. Barring a Calvin Ridley trade, I'd be against taking a wideout at 8 overall. I feel the Falcons have bigger area of needs. Despite me feeling this way, Jamarr Chase has shown the difference an elite wideout can make in year one. Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com wrote  "The Falcons have some uncertainty at the wide receiver position, and they need to add more firepower to their offense. Head coach ...

5 moves the Falcons should make this offseason

Image
The Atlanta Falcons are currently projected $4.6 million over the cap for 2022. Only seven teams have less cap room then the Falcons, but we are in a much better position then last offseason. Here are five moves I think Arthur Smith and Terry Fontenout should make.  Keep Calvin Ridley: Obviously this depends on whether Ridley wants to stay or not, but the Falcons need to keep try and keep him. The teams left in the playoffs are littered with talent at wide receiver. Ridley has the ability to rival almost any other receiver in the league. Matt Ryan desperately missed the former Alabama wideout in 2021. He is a stud when he is on the field. Ridley ranked 5th in the NFL in the 2020 season with 1374 receiving yards and 9 receiving touchdowns. Trade Grady Jarrett: Jarrett has been an incredible defensive lineman for the Atlanta Falcons, but he is approaching a window where he'll need a new contract. The Falcons have limited cap space. Trading Jarrett would create $9.2 million in cap roo...

2021 Atlanta Falcons End of Season Awards

Image
The Atlanta Falcons first season under the leadership of Arthur Smith ended with a 7-10 record that saw them miss the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season. Only 5 franchises have a longer playoff drought then the Falcons. Image taken from @SNFONNBC's Facebook account Grade for Arthur Smiths first season I ran a poll on both my Instagram and Twitter accounts and the consensus was that Smith's first season earned a C grade. Although we won three more games in 2021, this was in large part to us having the second easiest schedule in the NFL. Against playoff opposition, Atlanta were annihilated.  I had low expectations going into the season but the manner of our losses against Philadelphia, Dallas, New England and San Francisco showed a team who are amongst the worst in the league. Sometimes hope is all you can have as a fan, but what hope is there with this roster and regime? Other then Kyle Pitts, Terry Fontenout's first draft class was incredibly underwhelming. Fixing the...

New Orleans Saints 30-20 Atlanta Falcons: Dreadful Falcons fold like a cheap suit

Image
The Atlanta Falcons season ended in a pitiful manner. An embarrassing home loss to their most hated divisional rivals New Orleans Saints, who were forced to play the majority of the game with their third string quarterback. Losing is acceptable when your team fights hard and leaves everything on the field; but this was a gutless showing, that emphasizes just how much work there is to be done to fix this team. Arthur Smiths men won three more games, then the 2020 Atlanta Falcons, but they were assisted by having the second easiest schedule in the NFL. The Game Taysom Hill started at quarterback for the New Orleans Saints. They opened the game on offense and orchestrated a dream drive. A run heavy approach saw Alvin Kamara pop off a 27 yard run to get the Saints in to Falcons territory. On a playaction pass, Hill found Adam Trautman, who lost Deion Jones in coverage; Trautman scampered into the endzone for an 18 yard score to give the Saints a 7-0 lead. They'd hold the lead for the r...

New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons Week 18 Preview

Image
The Atlanta Falcons host the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, knowing they have the opportunity to stop the Saints making the playoffs. It would be a good way to end the season. Sean Paytons side need a win in Atlanta, coupled with an LA Rams win over the San Francisco 49ers to guarantee a fifth consecutive trip to the post season. A win for Arthur Smiths men would see them finish above their arch rivals and 2nd in the NFC South. It would also give the Falcons twice as many wins as they had in 2020. Head to Head Last time these two sides was in week 9, where the Falcons came out victorious 27-25 , thanks to a walk off Younghoe Koo game winning field goal. That day Trevor Siemian quaterbacked New Orleans, on Sunday Taysom Hill will be the starting quarterback. Hill started both of the games against the Falcons last year at quarterback, winning both. New Orleans are a hot and cold operation. They have wins over Superbowl contenders Tampa Bay twice, Green Bay at a neutral venue and New Engla...

Atlanta Falcons 15-29 Buffalo Bills: Bills eliminate Falcons from playoff contention

Image
The Atlanta Falcons were eliminated from the NFC playoff race after a 29-15 loss to the Buffalo Bills in freezing snowy conditions. The Falcons elevated five players from the practice squad to the roster before the game. Atlanta surprisingly led at half time 15-14, but a scoreless second half doomed them to a ninth defeat of the season. The Game The Falcons took a rare 2-0 lead, thanks to a safety. A forced fumble by Avery Williams on a Buffalo punt return, resulted in the ball ending up in the Bills endzone. The ball was recovered by Bills wideout Jake Kumerow. A quick Falcons three and out, gave Buffalo the ball at their own 31 yard line. The Bills moved the ball down the field with ease utilising their impressive set of wide receivers. Completions to Cole Beasley, Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis got the Bills to the Falcons redzone. A pass interference on AJ Terrell on 4th and goal gave Buffalo a new set of downs from the Atlanta 1. Josh Allen scored on a designed quarterback run to ...
