5 Wide Receivers the Atlanta Falcons should consider drafting
The Atlanta Falcons have the worst wide receiver corps in the NFL. Like many other areas of the team, we could do with drastically improving the talent at the position. Reporter James Palmer revealed on NFL Network "The Falcons are going to be aggressive in their pursuit of a wide receiver in the draft". I have identified five wide receivers in the draft that I like. I am hoping the Falcons can land atleast one of these guys.
Skyy Moore
The receiver out of Western Michigan was productive in his 3 seasons in college. He will probably be best as a slot receiver in the NFL. His route running still needs polishing up. He possesses a knack of getting open thanks to his quick footwork. Moore offers 4.4 speed and he uses it to great effect, regalularly getting open on go routes. He possesses strong hands at the catch point.
He is one of only four FBS players with at least 95 catches, 1200 receiving yards and ten touchdowns last season. A weakness in his game according to some, is his small frame. In my opinion, if you're good enough you're tall enough. Moore is expected to go in the second round in the NFL Draft.
Dontario Drummond
Drummond could be a day 3 steal for whichever team lands the former Ole Miss wideout. Atlanta had a porous offensive line in pass protection last season and a player like Drummond can help mask some of those flaws. He is a YAC monster. He will offer Marcus Mariota the ability to be able to get the ball out quickly. Drummond has really good hand eye coordination and a wide catch radius.
Drummond is most comfortable running slants, hitches and drags routes. In 2021, Drummond caught 76 passes for 1028 yards and eight touchdowns. On occasion, he lined up in the back field at H-Back. Ultimately, he could be a versatile weapon for Arthur Smith.
Christian Watson
Watson is a brilliant deep threat prospect. He averaged 20.4 yards per reception at North Dakota State. He should be available in the late 1st round or early 2nd, so he could be in play at pick 43. Not only does Watson possess great pace, he offers 6' 4" size too. You wouldn't expect it from a man of Watsons height but he is as dynamic a player in space as anyone in this draft class. Watson offers so much value to the team he lands with.
He is a home run threat as a rusher, receiver or kick returner. Watson still needs to develop his route running ability, but he has all of the traits to be an 1000 yard receiver eventually at the NFL level. His speed allows him to make catches in all three phases of the passing game. In Atlanta, he could line up as the 'X' receiver in Arthur Smiths offense. I love Watsons blocking ability, he plays with full effort on every play.
David Bell
David Bell was a very productive starter at the collegiate level, amassing 1286 yards and six touchdowns. Bell is a technician when it comes to route running, he can run an extensive array of routes. He would offer the Falcons a receiver who can line up out wide or from the slot. People will claim that one of his weaknesses is that he lacks elite speed, but his 40 yard dash was nearly identical to Cooper Kupp who led the NFL in receiving and who won Superbowl MVP.
The former Purdue alumni excels over the middle of the field, he does a brilliant job of utilising his nifty footwork to make defenders miss open field tackles. Bell is elite after the catch which makes any quarterbacks life easier. He would instantly be the best route runner amongst the Atlanta Falcons wide receivers, if we decided to draft him on day two of the NFL Draft.
Alec Pierce
Alec Pierce is a possession receiver, who excels in the red zone. He does a really good job at finding the open spaces against zone coverage. Pierce would instantly be a great redzone and third down target for the Falcons. He does a great job of catching back shoulder throws and jump ball targets. He is quicker than a typical possesion receiver. For Cincinnati, he lined up in the slot and outside. He hauled in 52 receptions for 884 yards and eight touchdowns in 2021.
Whilst he doesn't do a great job of making tacklers miss, he could be an excellent chain mover for us in 2022. On contested catches, Pierce is incredible at using his frame to his advantage. Pierce is a brilliant blocker which is required for a wide receiver in Arthur Smiths offense. Pierce would likely fill the 'Z' receiver role for an NFL team. Pierce is projected to go on day two of the NFL Draft.
