Atlanta Falcons 21-14 Jacksonville Jaguars: Christmas comes early for the Falcons

Image
The Atlanta Falcons improved their record to 5-6 with a 21-14 win in Duval county vs. the error prone Jacksonville Jaguars. All five of Atlanta's wins have come outside of the Mercedes Benz Stadium suggesting they find comfort on the road.  It moves Arthur Smiths' men into second in the NFC South standings and with the same record as the Vikings who hold the NFC #7 seed. The Falcons won't face a team as generous as the Jaguars again this season.  The Game The Falcons made it thirteen games in a row without an opening drive touchdown as all they could muster on their opening possession was 22 yards before new punter Thomas Morstead got a slice of the action. The Jaguars started at their own 14 and had a similar opening drive; punting after gaining just 23 yards leaving Matt Ryan and his offense at the 19 yard line following a Cooke 44 yard punt. The Falcons were facing a three and out after a sack on Ryan left them with a 3rd and 13 but Mile Davis coverted with an 18 yard re...

Atlanta Falcons @ Jacksonville Jaguars Week 12 Preview

The 4-6 Atlanta Falcons travel to Duval County to take on the 2-8 Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags are led by No.1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence at quarterback and first year head coach Urban Meyer who made his name in college football winning three National Championships  Both teams are coming in on two game losing streaks.  Head to Head Trevor Lawrence has struggled in his rookie year in large part to not having a great supporting cast around him. Lawrence ranks as PFFs #35 quarterback out of 36 which confirms he hasn't been good. One player who doesn't fall into the category of being a bad support player for Trevor Lawrence, is running back James Robinson who has PFFs highest rushing grade amongst all running backs at an incredible 90.5. This has been reflected in Jacksonville averaging 5.0 yards per rushing play this season. Lawrences struggles show up in his stat line having thrown only 8 touchdowns compared to 9 interceptions in his ten starts so far.  Jason LaCanfora ...

New England Patriots 25-0 Atlanta Falcons: Men against boys

Image
The Atlanta Falcons were brutally beaten for the second time in the span of five days. This time around, it was at the hands of the New England Patriots. It was an embarrassing loss that drops the Falcons to 0-4 at home this season. It was the first time since 1988 that Atlanta had been shutout at home. It is hard to think of a worst home field advantage then the Falcons have since moving to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Arthur Blank has priced many fans out of being able to attend. If this season has taught me one thing, it is that we must stop wasting Matt Ryan's final years and trade him. It isn't fair to arguable the greatest Falcons player of all time to be on a roster so devoid of talent. This team ain't getting fixed anytime soon. The offensive line is comparable to a turnstile, the defence wouldn't stop a nose bleed and the receiving group wouldn't catch a cold.  The rosters key players are Ryan, Pitts, Ridley, Patterson, Lindstrom, Matthews, Jarrett, Koo and T...

New England Patriots @ Atlanta Falcons Week 11 Preview

Everyone thinks of only one game when the Patriots play the Falcons. Superbowl 51 and the biggest blown lead ever in a Superbowl. As Falcons fans we won't ever escape that game. Every time a game has a score of 28-3, opposition fans are quick to remind us that we committed the ultimate choke job in sports history with endless memes. Five double digit blown leads since that fateful day; have not only triggered PTSD for Falcons fans but has also left us emotionally dumb. Back then the Patriots dynasty was at its strongest with Tom Brady under center. Last season the Patriots missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008. They spent the most money of anyone in the off season and drafted Alabama quarterback Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick to ensure it wouldn't happen again. After a few close fought losses to start the season for New England, they have started to look like a definite playoff team. The Patriots are one of the most in form teams in the NFL having won 5 of the...

Atlanta Falcons 3-43 Dallas Cowboys: For Falc Sake

Image
In soccer, there is a chant for when a fan doesn't think a player is worthy or good enough to play for their team that goes like this, "You're not fit to wear the shirt!". Well that's exactly how I feel about the majority of these Atlanta Falcons. The roster is made up of about ten NFL calibre players and the rest are journeyman who I would happily leave in Dallas. A spineless unprepared showing from the Falcons leaves them with little doubt on where they stack up against playoff level opposition. It's not good enough. I feel for the fans who spent their hard earned money traveling to Dallas to watch this debacle. The last time we trailed by 33 or more at half time was 1967. The worst first half for the Atlanta Falcons in 54 years! The Dallas Cowboys have a rich history of winning but their 29 points in the 2nd quarter was a franchise record. It was our biggest defeat since 2004. Results like this when you have a franchise quarterback like Matt Ryan are unforg...

Atlanta Falcons @ Dallas Cowboys Week 10 Preview

Image
The Atlanta Falcons (4-4) are 9.5 point underdogs as they head to Dallas this week to take on a Cowboys team (6-2) coming off a surprising 30-16 home loss to the Denver Broncos. The match up will see the Falcons go up against a familiar face in Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn who was the Falcons head coach from 2015-2020. The two met last season in a game the Cowboys won 40-39 after recovering a late onside kick where the Falcons players didn't seem to know the rules for recovery. The Falcons had led that meeting 29-10 at half time. It was one of Atlanta's many blown 4th quarter leads that cost Quinn his job. Despite being huge underdogs the Falcons are coming into this game on a high after defeating the New Orleans Saints 27-25 last Sunday. Before he was forced to miss the trip to Minnesota in week 7 due to injury, Dak Prescott was the best quarterback in the NFL this season. Although he is coming off one of the worst games of his career, that was against a menacing Br...

Atlanta Falcons 27-25 New Orleans Saints: It's Koo, It's Damn Koo

Image
The New Orleans Saints fanbase have a chant that goes like this "Who  dat?   Who dat?   Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints? ". Well New Orleans, WE DAT! Atlanta Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo kicked a 29 yard field goal as time expired to give the Falcons a dramatic road win over their arch rivals New Orleans Saints at the Caesars Superdome. The Falcons squandered a 4th quarter 24-6 lead to trail the Saints by a point with 61 seconds left on the clock. Just as the whole Atlanta Falcons fanbase began to think we had lost another game having had a big 4th quarter lead, Matt Ryan found Cordarelle Patterson open down the sideline for his longest and most important completion of the season to set up the game winning kick. The Game In a first half where both offenses struggled; The Falcons orchestrated a magnificent 92 yard touchdown drive to put them 10-0 up at half time. The key plays on this drive were three consecutive 3rd down conversions. The biggest a 20 yard Ryan to Gag...

Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints Week 9 Preview

The Big 'Un. Saints Hate week. As Falcons legendary wide receiver Roddy White once said “I don’t like nothing about the Saints. The colors. The city. Nothing. But they’ve got some good food, though. Other than the food, nothing.” Simply put we can't stand each other. No two games mean more to the Atlanta Falcons fan base then our two games every year against our greatest rival the New Orleans Saints. Although we have an all time record of 53-51 vs. the Saints, recent times haven't been kind to us with the Saints winning 6 of the last 7 encounters. The big news coming out of New Orleans is that the Saints quarterback Jameis Winston will miss the remainder of the 2021 season after suffering a torn ACL early on in their very impressive 36-27 win over divisional foes and reigning Superbowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Taking over at Quarterback for the Saints should be Trevor Siemian. The former Broncos Quarterback got his opportunity to replace Winston last week due to a...
